What is an Ultrasound Ankle Right?
Ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves — no radiation and no injections — to produce real-time images of soft tissues and organs.
An Ultrasound Ankle Right allows your radiologist to examine:
- Tendons (e.g., Achilles tendon)
- Ligaments
- Joint fluid
- Soft tissues around the ankle
- Blood flow within the ankle (using Doppler ultrasound)
Ultrasound is safe, painless, and radiation-free — making it a first-line investigation for many conditions of the ankle right.

Frequently asked questions
Is an ankle ultrasound safe?
Yes, ultrasound is a very safe imaging technique that uses sound waves and no ionising radiation. It is painless and non-invasive, with a warm gel applied to the skin and a small probe used to capture the images.
How long does an ankle ultrasound take?
The scan itself typically takes around 15-20 minutes. Your appointment will be longer to allow for check-in and any questions you may have.
What happens after my ankle ultrasound?
Your scan images will be reviewed by a UK-certified Consultant Radiologist. You will receive access to your secure online patient portal within 72 hours, containing your images and report. You can share these with your GP or any other clinician.
How quickly can I get a scan?
Most MRI, ultrasound, and X-ray scans at MyScanHub can be booked same-day or next-day. Walk-in slots are available for X-rays most weekdays.
Do I need a GP referral?
No — MyScanHub accepts self-referral for most scans. Our consultant radiologists review every case. Some scans (e.g. contrast studies) do need a referring clinician; we'll let you know at booking.
When will I get my report?
Written reports from a GMC-registered consultant radiologist are delivered within 72 hours of your scan, often sooner. You can access the report — and the imaging — through your patient account on portal.myscanhub.com.
Is my data kept private?
Yes. MyScanHub is CQC-registered and fully GDPR-compliant. Your imaging and report are encrypted in transit and at rest, and only shared with parties you explicitly authorise.
