What happens during an ultrasound of the hands?
A sonographer will gently move a small probe over your hands, applying a warm, water-based gel. The probe sends sound waves into your body, which create images on a screen. The scan is painless and you can usually move your hands freely afterwards.
How long does a hand ultrasound take?
The scan itself typically takes around 15-30 minutes, depending on the specific areas being examined.
When will I get my results?
Your images will be reviewed by a UK-certified Consultant Radiologist. You can expect your detailed report within 72 hours, accessible via your secure online patient portal. You can choose to have the report sent to your GP as well.
Can an ultrasound show arthritis?
An ultrasound can show changes associated with arthritis, such as joint swelling, inflammation, and fluid build-up. Your Consultant Radiologist will interpret these findings in your report.
