What these tests look at
Hormones are chemical messengers. They affect your cycle, your fertility, your mood, your sleep and your energy. A hormone blood test measures the levels of some of these messengers at the time the sample is taken.
People book for lots of reasons: planning a pregnancy, periods that have become irregular, symptoms that could be linked to menopause, or low energy and low libido that they want to understand better.
On the day, a small blood sample is taken at our Dartford clinic. Some hormone tests are best taken at a certain point in your cycle, so tell us when you book. Ultrasound scans are also available here.

Do I need a referral for a hormone blood test?
No. You can book directly with us, online, by phone on 0800 151 2227 or on WhatsApp. There is no need to see your GP first or bring a referral letter.
When in my cycle should I have a hormone test?
It depends on which hormones are being measured. Some are best taken at a particular point in the cycle. Tell us where you are in your cycle when you book, or ask your GP which timing suits your test.
Can a blood test tell me if I am menopausal?
Hormone levels can add useful information, but menopause is usually worked out from your age, your symptoms and your cycle pattern as well. A result is one part of that picture, best discussed with a clinician.
Can these tests tell me whether I can get pregnant?
No test can answer that on its own. Fertility depends on many things. Blood tests, and sometimes an ultrasound scan, give information that a clinician can consider alongside your history.
My periods have changed a lot. Should I book a test?
For changes that have built up over time, a hormone panel is one option. Your GP can help you decide whether it is the right test, and we offer GP consultations as a separate service.
