About genitourinary MRI scans

What these scans look at

Genitourinary MRI uses a magnetic field and radio waves to take detailed pictures of the urinary and reproductive organs. That covers the prostate, the bladder, the female pelvis, and the penis and testes. There is no ionising radiation.

People book these scans for urinary symptoms, prostate concerns, ongoing pelvic pain, or because a specialist has asked for imaging as part of follow-up. We explain each step before we start, and you can ask questions at any point.

On the day you lie on a padded table that moves into the scanner and stay as still as you can. If any preparation is needed, we will tell you when you book. A radiologist then reports your images.

Trust isn’t built by promises — it’s earned through experience. Here’s what real patients have to say about their journey with MyScanHub.

Extremely easy to book; great appointment choices and superb service — thanks, Becky. Same day booked. Result discussed after scan and report and images emailed within 2 hours. NHS “urgent” referral was 6 months! Highly recommended.

Common questions

Genitourinary MRI questions, answered

Do I need a GP referral for a prostate MRI?

No. You can book it yourself, online, on 0800 151 2227 or by WhatsApp. If a urologist or GP has asked for a specific scan, tell us which one so we book the right study.

Will an MRI Prostate tell me if I have cancer?

No scan can promise that. An MRI Prostate can help show the size and appearance of the prostate and any areas that look different. The radiologist's report describes what is seen, and your doctor takes it from there.

Is the scan embarrassing or uncomfortable?

For most people it is straightforward. You lie on your back on the scanner table while the pictures are taken. If anything else is needed for your scan, we will explain it first. You can ask questions at any point.

Does the scan use radiation?

No. MRI uses a magnetic field and radio waves, so there is no ionising radiation. Because of the strong magnet, tell us about any metal implants, clips or devices before you book, so a clinician can check an MRI is suitable for you.

How much does it cost, and can I cancel?

Genitourinary MRI starts at £295, with the written radiologist report included and no hidden fees. Contrast (gadolinium) is £120 extra, only when clinically required and confirmed by a clinician before you book. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before.
