What is a MRI Ankle Left?
MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) uses powerful magnets and radiofrequency waves — with no ionising radiation — to create high-resolution cross-sectional images.
A MRI Ankle Left allows your radiologist to examine:
- The bones of the ankle, including the tibia, fibula, and talus.
- Ligaments such as the anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL) and deltoid ligament.
- Tendons like the Achilles tendon and peroneal tendons.
- Cartilage surfaces within the ankle joint.
- Fluid collections or swelling around the ankle structures.
MRI offers unmatched soft-tissue contrast and is widely used in specialist care for diagnosing and following-up disease of the ankle left.

Frequently asked questions
How long does a left ankle MRI take?
A typical MRI scan of a single body part, like the left ankle, takes about 30 to 45 minutes to complete.
Will I feel anything during the MRI scan?
You will not feel the magnetic field or radio waves. You may hear loud tapping or knocking noises from the scanner, and we offer earplugs or headphones to help with this.
Can I have a contrast agent for my ankle MRI?
A gadolinium contrast agent can be added for an extra charge (£200) if your referring clinician believes it's necessary for a more detailed view of certain tissues, such as inflammation or specific ligament/tendon injuries. This needs to be confirmed before booking.
What happens after my MRI scan?
Your scan images will be reviewed by a UK-certified Consultant Radiologist. You'll receive your detailed report within 72 hours via a secure online portal, which you can view, download, and share with your GP or specialist.
How quickly can I get a scan?
Most MRI, ultrasound, and X-ray scans at MyScanHub can be booked same-day or next-day. Walk-in slots are available for X-rays most weekdays.
Do I need a GP referral?
No — MyScanHub accepts self-referral for most scans. Our consultant radiologists review every case. Some scans (e.g. contrast studies) do need a referring clinician; we'll let you know at booking.
When will I get my report?
Written reports from a GMC-registered consultant radiologist are delivered within 72 hours of your scan, often sooner. You can access the report — and the imaging — through your patient account on portal.myscanhub.com.
Is my data kept private?
Yes. MyScanHub is CQC-registered and fully GDPR-compliant. Your imaging and report are encrypted in transit and at rest, and only shared with parties you explicitly authorise.
