MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) uses powerful magnets and radiofrequency waves — with no ionising radiation — to create high-resolution cross-sectional images.
An MRI Forearm Both Scan allows your radiologist to examine:

Preparing for your MRI Forearm Both Scan
On the day of your scan:
- Please wear comfortable clothing. You may be asked to change into a gown.
- Remove all jewellery, watches, and any metal objects before your scan.
- Eat and take your usual medications as normal, unless specifically advised otherwise.
- Bring any previous scan reports or relevant medical information with you.
Please notify the team if:
- If you have a pacemaker, defibrillator, or any implanted cardiac device.
- If you have certain types of cochlear implants or metal clips used in brain surgery.
- If you have any metal fragments or foreign bodies in your body, especially in the eyes.
- If you are pregnant, particularly in the first trimester.
- If you experience severe claustrophobia; we can discuss options to help you feel more comfortable.

Frequently asked questions
How long does an MRI scan of both forearms take?
A single-part MRI scan typically takes between 30 and 45 minutes to complete. Your appointment may be longer to allow for preparation and positioning.
Will I need contrast dye for my forearm MRI?
Contrast dye is not routinely used for forearm MRI scans. It is only administered if your referring clinician or our reporting radiologist believes it is clinically necessary to better visualise certain structures, and this would be discussed with you beforehand. If required, there is an additional charge of £120.
Can I get my MRI results immediately?
Your scan images will be reviewed by a UK-certified Consultant Radiologist. You will receive your detailed report within 3 working days via a secure online patient portal, which you can access, download, and share. You can also request a copy be sent to your GP.
Do I need a GP referral for a private MRI scan?
No, a GP referral is not required to book a private MRI scan at MyScanHub. You can self-refer directly for your convenience.
Do I need a GP referral?
No — MyScanHub accepts self-referral for most scans. Our consultant radiologists review every case. Some scans (e.g. contrast studies) do need a referring clinician; we'll let you know at booking.
When will I get my report?
Written reports from a GMC-registered consultant radiologist are delivered within 3 working days of your scan, often sooner. You can access the report — and the imaging — through your patient account at myscanhub.com.
Where is the clinic?
Our imaging centre is at Bluewater Shopping Centre, Dartford, Kent (DA9 9ST), in the Guildhall Outer Car Park — free parking, a few minutes from junction 2 of the M25 and the A2. We're open Monday to Saturday 8am–9pm and Sunday 10am–5pm. Full directions are sent with your booking confirmation.
