How long does an MRI of both hands take?
A typical MRI scan of both hands takes around 30–45 minutes. Your radiographer will confirm the exact duration on the day.
Will I need contrast dye for my hand MRI?
Contrast dye is not always necessary but may be used if your referring clinician or our reporting radiologist feels it will provide more detail. If needed, it's an additional £200 and requires clinical confirmation before booking.
Can I have an MRI if I have claustrophobia?
We understand that enclosed spaces can be difficult for some. Our MRI scanner is relatively spacious, and our team is experienced in supporting anxious patients. Please discuss any concerns with us when booking.
What happens after my scan?
Your scan images will be reviewed by a UK-certified Consultant Radiologist. You'll receive access to your results and images via a secure online portal, typically within 72 hours. You can then share these with your GP or clinician.
How quickly can I get a scan?
Most MRI, ultrasound, and X-ray scans at MyScanHub can be booked same-day or next-day. Walk-in slots are available for X-rays most weekdays.
Do I need a GP referral?
No — MyScanHub accepts self-referral for most scans. Our consultant radiologists review every case. Some scans (e.g. contrast studies) do need a referring clinician; we'll let you know at booking.

Written reports from a GMC-registered consultant radiologist are delivered within 72 hours of your scan, often sooner. You can access the report — and the imaging — through your patient account on portal.myscanhub.com.
Is my data kept private?
