About this scan

What is a MRI Thigh (Femur) Right?

MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) uses powerful magnets and radiofrequency waves — with no ionising radiation — to create high-resolution cross-sectional images.

A MRI Thigh (Femur) Right allows your radiologist to examine:

  • The femur (thigh bone), including its shaft, ends, and growth plates in younger patients.
  • The major muscles of the thigh, such as the quadriceps, hamstrings, and adductors.
  • Tendons and ligaments attaching to the femur and thigh muscles.
  • Blood vessels and nerves within the thigh.
  • The hip joint and knee joint where they involve the femur.
  • Bone marrow and surrounding soft tissues.

MRI offers unmatched soft-tissue contrast and is widely used in specialist care for diagnosing and following-up disease of the thigh femur right.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

How long does a right thigh and femur MRI take?

A single-part MRI scan typically takes between 30 and 45 minutes to complete. Your appointment may be slightly longer to allow for preparation and questions.

Will I need contrast dye for my thigh MRI?

Contrast dye is not always necessary for a thigh or femur MRI. It is only used if your referring clinician or the reporting radiologist believes it will provide essential extra information, for example, to better assess inflammation or certain types of lesions. If needed, this is an optional add-on.

Can I get my MRI results straight away?

Your images will be reviewed by a UK-certified Consultant Radiologist. You will receive your full report within 72 hours, which you can access via your secure online patient portal. You can then download, view, and share these results, or send them to your GP.

Is an MRI scan safe?

MRI scans are considered very safe. They use a strong magnetic field and radio waves, not ionising radiation like X-rays. We do ask you to inform us of certain implants or metal in your body beforehand, as these can be affected by the magnetic field.

How quickly can I get a scan?

Most MRI, ultrasound, and X-ray scans at MyScanHub can be booked same-day or next-day. Walk-in slots are available for X-rays most weekdays.

Do I need a GP referral?

No — MyScanHub accepts self-referral for most scans. Our consultant radiologists review every case. Some scans (e.g. contrast studies) do need a referring clinician; we'll let you know at booking.

When will I get my report?

Written reports from a GMC-registered consultant radiologist are delivered within 72 hours of your scan, often sooner. You can access the report — and the imaging — through your patient account on portal.myscanhub.com.

Is my data kept private?

Yes. MyScanHub is CQC-registered and fully GDPR-compliant. Your imaging and report are encrypted in transit and at rest, and only shared with parties you explicitly authorise.
