About this scan

What is an MRI Thigh (Femur) Scan?

MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) uses powerful magnets and radiofrequency waves — with no ionising radiation — to create high-resolution cross-sectional images.

An MRI Thigh (Femur) Scan allows your radiologist to examine:

  • The femur (thigh bone)
  • Quadriceps muscles
  • Hamstring muscles
  • Adductor muscles
  • Nerves and blood vessels within the thigh
  • Ligaments and tendons around the hip and knee joints

MRI offers unmatched soft-tissue contrast and is widely used in specialist care for diagnosing and following-up disease of the thigh femur.
