  • The location of the placenta
  • The volume of amniotic fluid surrounding your baby

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Can this scan tell me the sex of my baby?

While this scan is often referred to as a gender scan, its primary purpose is to check your baby's wellbeing and development. We can usually identify the baby's sex between 16 and 20 weeks, but this depends on the baby's position and cooperation on the day. This information is shared only if you wish.

What happens if the sonographer sees something unexpected?

Your scan will be reviewed by a UK-certified Consultant Radiologist. If any findings require further discussion or clinical advice, this will be communicated clearly, and you will be advised to consult with your GP or midwife for ongoing care.

How long does the scan take?

The appointment typically lasts around 20-30 minutes, allowing ample time for the examination and for you to ask any questions.

Is ultrasound safe during pregnancy?

Yes, ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves and is considered a safe diagnostic tool for use during pregnancy. It does not use ionising radiation.

How quickly can I get a scan?

Most MRI, ultrasound, and X-ray scans at MyScanHub can be booked same-day or next-day. Walk-in slots are available for X-rays most weekdays.

Do I need a GP referral?

No — MyScanHub accepts self-referral for most scans. Our consultant radiologists review every case. Some scans (e.g. contrast studies) do need a referring clinician; we'll let you know at booking.

When will I get my report?

Written reports from a GMC-registered consultant radiologist are delivered within 3 working days of your scan, often sooner. You can access the report — and the imaging — through your patient account on portal.myscanhub.com.

Is my data kept private?

Yes. MyScanHub is CQC-registered and fully GDPR-compliant. Your imaging and report are encrypted in transit and at rest, and only shared with parties you explicitly authorise.

Where is the clinic?
