On the day of your scan:
- For scans from 24 weeks to full term, it's helpful to have a comfortably full bladder. This helps to get a clearer view of your baby and the surrounding structures.
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing. You may be asked to lower or remove clothing from your abdomen.
- Please bring any previous scan reports or relevant medical information with you to the appointment.
- Allow approximately 30-45 minutes for your appointment.

Can this scan detect birth defects?
This scan assesses your baby's growth and wellbeing. While it can show the appearance of your baby's anatomy, any specific concerns or findings will be discussed with your clinician or midwife. It's not designed to detect every possible anomaly.
Is the ultrasound safe during pregnancy?
Yes, ultrasound uses sound waves and is considered safe for both you and your baby throughout pregnancy. It does not involve any ionising radiation.
What happens if the radiologist sees something concerning?
Your scan will be reviewed by a UK-certified Consultant Radiologist. If any findings require further attention, the report will be sent to your referring clinician or you can choose to have it sent to your GP, who will then discuss the next steps with you.
How soon will I get my results?
Your detailed report from the Consultant Radiologist will typically be available via your secure online patient portal within 3 working days. You can view, download, and share your report and images from there.
How quickly can I get a scan?
Most MRI, ultrasound, and X-ray scans at MyScanHub can be booked same-day or next-day. Walk-in slots are available for X-rays most weekdays.
Do I need a GP referral?
No — MyScanHub accepts self-referral for most scans. Our consultant radiologists review every case. Some scans (e.g. contrast studies) do need a referring clinician; we'll let you know at booking.

Written reports from a GMC-registered consultant radiologist are delivered within 3 working days of your scan, often sooner. You can access the report — and the imaging — through your patient account on portal.myscanhub.com.
Is my data kept private?
