What is a Presentation Scan 35 Weeks to Full Term?
Ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves — no radiation and no injections — to produce real-time images of soft tissues and organs.
Ultrasound is safe, painless, and radiation-free — making it a first-line investigation for many conditions of the pregnancy.
Is this scan right for you?
Common reasons for having this scan include:
- Uncertainty about fetal presentation
- Suspected breech presentation
- Midwife unable to confirm position by palpation
What a Presentation Scan 35 Weeks to Full Term can find
Ultrasound can identify:
- Cephalic (head down) presentation
- Breech presentation
- Transverse or oblique lie
- Fetal heartbeat
What it cannot do
This is a private reassurance scan and does not replace any component of your NHS antenatal care, including the dating scan, Down's syndrome screening or the 20-week fetal anomaly scan. Not all fetal abnormalities are detectable by ultrasound at any gestation. Image quality is dependent on fetal position, gestational age and maternal body habitus. Please remain under the care of your NHS midwife or obstetric team throughout your pregnancy. Any significant or unexpected findings will be communicated clearly at the time of your appointment, with guidance on appropriate next steps.
What happens on the day
- 1Check in at our clinic in the Guildhall Outer Car Park at Bluewater. Parking is free.
- 2You lie back on the couch with your tummy uncovered. A little gel goes on the skin and the probe is moved over the bump while you watch the screen.
- 3The sonographer talks you through what is on the screen as they go.
- 4The scan takes about 20 minutes.
- 5Your sonographer's written report is delivered securely to your patient account after the scan.
Which pregnancy scan is right for you?
Early pregnancy scan from 6 to 15 weeks for reassurance, dating and a heartbeat. Gender and well-being scan from 16 to 32 weeks. Growth scan from 24 weeks to full term. 4D/5D scan from 24 to 32 weeks for lifelike images of the face. Presentation scan from 35 weeks to check which way the baby is lying. The five-scan package covers the whole pregnancy at one price.
