Your appointment
What to expect at your MRI scan
- 1A safety questionnaire before the scan: tell us about pacemakers, implants, metal fragments, pregnancy or claustrophobia.
- 2You lie on the scanner table and a coil is placed over the area being scanned. The scanner is noisy, so you get ear protection and a call button.
- 3Most scans take 20–45 minutes. A few need a contrast injection, which we discuss with you first.
- 4A GMC-registered consultant radiologist reports the scan within 3 working days. The report and images appear in your patient account.
