On the day of your scan:
- You can usually eat and drink as normal before your scan, but please follow any specific instructions given.
- Remove all metal objects, including jewellery, watches, and clothing with metal fastenings.
- Wear comfortable clothing; you may be asked to change into a hospital gown.
- Bring any previous scan reports or relevant medical information with you.
Please notify the team if:
- If you have a pacemaker, implantable defibrillator, or any other implanted electronic device.
- If you have certain types of aneurysm clips, cochlear implants, or metal fragments in your body (especially the eyes).
- If you are pregnant, or suspect you might be, particularly in the first trimester.
- If you experience severe claustrophobia; we offer support for anxious patients.

How long does an MRCP scan take?
A single-part MRCP scan typically takes between 30 and 45 minutes to complete. The exact duration can vary depending on the specific images required.
Will I need contrast dye for my MRCP?
Contrast dye is not always necessary for an MRCP but may be used if clinically required to help visualise certain structures or abnormalities more clearly. If contrast is needed, this will be discussed with you and costs an additional £120.
Can I have an MRCP if I have a metal implant?
Many modern metal implants are safe for MRI, but it's crucial to inform us about any metal implants you have. We will assess your specific situation to ensure your safety before the scan.
What happens after my MRCP scan?
Your scan images will be reviewed by a UK-certified Consultant Radiologist. You will receive your detailed report within 3 working days via a secure online portal, which you can access, download, and share. You can also request your report be sent to your GP.
Do I need a GP referral?
No — MyScanHub accepts self-referral for most scans. Our consultant radiologists review every case. Some scans (e.g. contrast studies) do need a referring clinician; we'll let you know at booking.
When will I get my report?
Written reports from a GMC-registered consultant radiologist are delivered within 3 working days of your scan, often sooner. You can access the report — and the imaging — through your patient account at myscanhub.com.
Where is the clinic?
Our imaging centre is at Bluewater Shopping Centre, Dartford, Kent (DA9 9ST), in the Guildhall Outer Car Park — free parking, a few minutes from junction 2 of the M25 and the A2. We're open Monday to Saturday 8am–9pm and Sunday 10am–5pm. Full directions are sent with your booking confirmation.
