An MR Arthrogram Wrist Scan allows your radiologist to examine:

- Ligaments, including the triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC)
- Tendons around the wrist
- Bone surfaces
- Synovial lining of the joint

- You'll be asked to complete a safety questionnaire.
- Eat and take your usual medications unless advised otherwise by the clinic.
- Bring any previous scan reports or relevant medical information with you.
Please notify the team if:
- If you have a pacemaker or defibrillator (specific types may be MRI-compatible, so please discuss).
- If you have certain cochlear implants or other implanted electronic devices.
- If you have any metal fragments in your eyes or body (e.g., from previous injury or surgery).
- If you are pregnant, especially in the first trimester.

What is an MR arthrogram?
An MR arthrogram involves injecting a contrast agent into the joint before the MRI scan. This helps to highlight the joint's internal structures, such as cartilage and ligaments, providing clearer images than a standard MRI alone.
How long does an MR arthrogram of the wrist take?
A typical MR arthrogram of the wrist takes around 30–45 minutes for the scan itself, following the contrast injection.
Is an MR arthrogram painful?
The injection of the contrast agent may cause some temporary discomfort, similar to a blood test. Once inside, the contrast fluid can sometimes create a feeling of fullness in the joint. Our radiographers will support you throughout the procedure.
What happens after the scan?
Your images will be reviewed by a UK-certified Consultant Radiologist. You'll receive access to your secure online patient portal within 3 working days, where you can view and download your images and report. You can share these with your GP or clinician.
Do I need a GP referral?
No — MyScanHub accepts self-referral for most scans. Our consultant radiologists review every case. Some scans (e.g. contrast studies) do need a referring clinician; we'll let you know at booking.
When will I get my report?
Written reports from a GMC-registered consultant radiologist are delivered within 3 working days of your scan, often sooner. You can access the report — and the imaging — through your patient account at myscanhub.com.
Where is the clinic?
Our imaging centre is at Bluewater Shopping Centre, Dartford, Kent (DA9 9ST), in the Guildhall Outer Car Park — free parking, a few minutes from junction 2 of the M25 and the A2. We're open Monday to Saturday 8am–9pm and Sunday 10am–5pm. Full directions are sent with your booking confirmation.
