What is an MR arthrogram?
An MR arthrogram involves injecting a contrast agent into the joint before the MRI scan. This helps to highlight the joint's internal structures, such as cartilage and ligaments, providing clearer images than a standard MRI alone.
How long does an MR arthrogram of the wrist take?
A typical MR arthrogram of the wrist takes around 30–45 minutes for the scan itself, following the contrast injection.
Is an MR arthrogram painful?
The injection of the contrast agent may cause some temporary discomfort, similar to a blood test. Once inside, the contrast fluid can sometimes create a feeling of fullness in the joint. Our radiographers will support you throughout the procedure.
