Your appointment
What to expect at your MRI scan
- 1A safety questionnaire before the scan: tell us about pacemakers, implants, metal fragments, pregnancy or claustrophobia.
- 2You lie on the scanner table and a coil is placed over the area being scanned. The scanner is noisy, so you get ear protection and a call button.
- 3Most scans take 20–45 minutes. A few need a contrast injection, which we discuss with you first.
- 4A GMC-registered consultant radiologist reports the scan within 3 working days. The report and images appear in your patient account.
Questions
Private MRI Scans: Chatham FAQs
- How do I get to MyScanHub from Chatham without a car?
- Take Arriva's 700 from Chatham Waterfront bus station or Chatham station: it runs through Rochester and Strood to Bluewater bus station. Or take a Thameslink train from Chatham to Greenhithe for Bluewater, then Fastrack A from outside the station or a short taxi ride.
- What is the best route from Walderslade or Lordswood?
- Join the M2 and stay on it as it becomes the A2, then leave at the B255 junction for Bluewater. From Walderslade that is about 16 miles, usually around 25 minutes.
- Do I need a GP referral for a private MRI scan near Chatham?
- No. You can book most MRI scans directly online. Before the scan we go through a safety questionnaire with you, and a GMC-registered consultant radiologist reports every scan.
- When will I get my MRI results?
- Your written report from a consultant radiologist is uploaded to your secure patient account within 3 working days, with your images. You can share both with your GP, physiotherapist or consultant, or add a GP consultation to talk the findings through.
- How soon can I have an MRI scan?
- Appointments are often available the same week, and some days the same or next day. The booking page shows live availability, including evenings until 9pm and Sundays.
